How is the gold rate in Mumbai decided?
The Mumbai gold rate starts from the international price of gold, quoted in US dollars per troy ounce (31.1 g). It is converted to rupees at the day's USD–INR exchange rate, then customs duty and local market premiums are added. Mumbai's bullion trade publishes benchmark rates during the day, and jewellers across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai follow them.
- Global gold price — driven by interest rates, the US dollar, central-bank buying and geopolitical events.
- Rupee–dollar rate — a weaker rupee raises the gold price in India even if global gold is flat.
- Import duty — set in the Union Budget; changes shift Indian prices overnight.
- Local demand — wedding and festive seasons (Akshaya Tritiya, Dhanteras) can add a premium.
Selling rate vs buying rate — what you'll actually get
The rates above are for refined gold. When you sell old jewellery, you are paid for its gold content: net weight × purity × 24K rate, less the buyer's margin. Making charges and GST paid at purchase are not refunded by any buyer. We publish our payout percentage (97% of pure-gold value) so you can compare.

Gold rate in Mumbai — FAQs
How is today's gold rate in Mumbai decided?
Mumbai gold rates follow the international gold price (in US dollars per troy ounce) converted to rupees, plus customs duty and local demand. Bullion associations and jewellers publish a benchmark rate each morning and afternoon. Our rate card shows the 24K, 22K and 18K price per 10 grams.
Why is the buying price lower than the rate I see online?
Rates you see online or at a showroom are selling rates that include 3% GST and are quoted for perfectly pure, refined gold. Old jewellery has to be melted, refined and re-assayed, so every buyer pays slightly below the headline rate. We show our payout percentage openly so you can compare.
What is the difference between 24K, 22K and 18K gold rate?
24K is 99.9% pure gold, 22K is 91.6% pure and 18K is 75% pure. The 22K rate is the 24K rate × 0.916 and the 18K rate is the 24K rate × 0.75 (approximately). Most Indian jewellery is 22K; diamond and fashion jewellery is usually 18K.
How often is the gold rate on this page updated?
The rate card updates automatically through the day. The time of the last update is shown under the price, and the page refreshes the figure every minute while you have it open.
Is the gold rate the same in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai?
Yes. Thane and Navi Mumbai follow the Mumbai benchmark rate, so the same rate card applies across all three.
Does the rate include GST?
The rate card shows the gold rate without GST. When you sell old gold as an individual you do not pay or charge GST — you simply receive the value of the gold.
